HOT-DIP GALVANIZING FOR ENVIRONMENT SUSTAINABILITY
Steel is the world’s most recycled building material. In Europe recycling touches 87%. After being removed, entire sections of galvanized steel, such as motorway barries, are recycled.
ZINC IS TOTALLY RECYCLABLE NON-FERROUS METAL
During the galvanizing process, no loss of material occurs, unlike spray applications or other types of plating and, furthermore, zinc ashes (surface oxidisation of galvanizing bath) and zinc mattes (mix of zinc and iron which deposits in tanks) are partially recycled by the zinc-plating company or transformed for various applications as additives for rubber, cosmetics and electronic components.
Zinc is the 27th most common element in the earth’s crust and large quantities exists all over the world; thanks to the discovery of large deposits, global reserves have increased considerably.
ZINC IS LIFE
Zinc helps us live and conduct an active and healthy life style. Among all vitamins and minerals, zinc produces the clearest effect on our immune system. Zinc improves memory and thought and reduces weariness and changes of mood. Zinc is essential in favouring the growth of babies, children and teenagers.
GALVANIZED STEEL, ESSENTIAL INSTRUMENT LIFE CYCLE THINKING
Hot-dip galvanizing can provide long-term protection against corrosion without maintenance, even in the most difficult environments. New community policies consider hot-dip galvanized steel to be a primary material in green procurement guidelines and in the transparency process adopted in Life Cycle Assessment, it represents one of the fundamental instruments for the implementation of an Integrated Product Policy, as well as the major operating instrument of “Life Cycle Thinking”.
